24nd June 2017

Thursday was a special day for everyone at Beckhampton with a cross card treble and Atty Persse winning the King George V at Ascot.

We have a good record in the race with Source of Light winning in 1992 and the 6 runners we have had in between him and Atty, three of them have been placed. It was a wonderful victory for Kieran Shoemark, who is such a talent and is getting the recognition he deserves.

Today we return to the track with two live chances in the form of Projection and Ayrad.

Projection ran a nice race last time at Newmarket when we knew he was carrying a little holiday weight. He did incredibly well over the winter putting on nearly 60kgs. We have been working a way at that and we have him where we want him now. This race is unbelievably tricky to win, but we are going there with a lightly race horse who has a lot of ability and we hope he is the right one for the race. Kieran takes off a valuable 3lbs. His form last year was very solid and he looks very healthy.

Ayrad has had some time off and has been gelded since his last run. He goes well fresh and ran some big races last year. He took an age to get rid of his coat, and we left him alone all spring. The benefit of that will be seen today, as he looks magnificent. He is carrying less condition than last year and that was the aim of the gelding. Obviously this is his first start but we hope he can show up well before returning to pattern races.
