Eclipse Day.

Decorated Knight

Decorated Knight heads to Sandown to run in the Eclipse. It is always a fascinating race and the now 10lbs allowance between 3yos and older horses is always a source of intrigued. We can’t change that and nobody knows how the Guineas and Derby form ties in against the older, more proven G1 horses. All we know is that Decorated Knight has improved every time he has run and is a very consistent 2 time Group 1 winner, who ran a mighty race in defeat in the Prince of Wales’s. He and Ulysses will be a good test for the young crop and a lot will be revealed by the end of the day. Andrea Atzeni is at Haydock to ride for the man who pays his retainer and obviously we will miss him as he knows the horse very well, but Olivier is a world class jockey who has won more big races than most.

Zefferino ran a lot better last time than it looked. Andrea felt that the mile just stretched him and he was interfered with in the final furlong that probably cost him a couple of places. Mojito’s run at Haydock is the best form on offer but the rest are similar and hopefully Zefferino can run a good race.

Cribbs Causeway

At Haydock Cribbs Causeway has her 4th start in a month. This is not the way we normally do it but she has been progressing at a rate of knots and it seemed like a good opportunity to win some races. Today is a valuable prize with only 10 runners, some of whom won’t handle the ground and we hope she still has more in the locker, aided by Kieran’s very valuable claim. He was riding like a demon last night at Chelsmford, to claim a double.

Blakeney Point

Blakeney Point finds himself in a wide draw as he drops down in trip to 12f. We knew he didn’t stay in the Chester Cup and even last time over 1m 6f he travelled too well down the hill, when set alight by another. We think 1m 6f is probably his optimum trip and we would love to sneak in to the bottom of the Ebor at York. He is a game horse, and we hope that he can handle the ground conditions which could be fairly rapid.
