20th August 2014
Two runners today at York, Observational and Quest for More.
Observational
Observational runs in the Great Voltigeur at 3.05pm he is on a bit of a recovery mission having disappointed in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood, having looked like he was going to be involved in the finish he faltered coming down the hill and George Baker very sensibly eased up on him. He pulled up sound that day and he has been moving well ever since, so I can only imagine that he found galloping downhill on fast ground did not suit him. He is in good form but he is up against several colts that have better form than him. Finishing in the money will not be easy but he is a progressive colt who should be suited by the course.
Quest for More
Quest for More steps up four furlongs in trip to run over two miles in the 4.20pm race. He looks fairly exposed on his current mark of 85 but if he gets the trip he might find a bit more improvement.
The ground proved to be too holding and soft for Be My Gal in Deauville yesterday Frankie had been very enthusiastic before the race that she would handle it but he reported that after 100 metres he knew we were in trouble. Luckily she did not have a hard race and the winner looked a bit special. She deserves at least a month before we make any plans for her.
Somehow we seem to have a strike rate of 50% at Brighton (I haven’t been there for decades) and there were several very relieved connections who where ecstatic to see Why Not Now win her first race yesterday.
