22nd October 2014

Six runners today, with five heading to Newmarket.

Run By Faith

Run By Faith runs in the Auction Maiden Fillies stakes over 7f. She showed some speed over shorter at Leicester before tiring in the closing stages. She is heading to the Horse In Training Sales next week. There are some talented fillies in the race, including the Luca Cumani trained Pamona.

Captain Marmalade

Captain Marmalade runs in the second division of the 7f Nursery. He has been running 6f, and ideally he would have run over that trip, but there are no suitable races, as the ground at Windsor on Monday will be nasty. He is bred to stay 7f, being by Duke of Marmalade from the family of Count of Limonade, but he has showed good speed in his previous races. The ground at this time of year is unknown to most horses, and we hope that he can act on it, despite being a good mover.

Ooty Hill makes his debut in the 7f Maiden Stakes. He is a huge horse by Dubawi, measuring 16.2  and is a half brother to Dare To Achieve. He was unsold at £75,000 at the sales last year. He is obviously a horse to look forward to next year, and I hope that he will show some promise today. The John Gosden horse Bollihope was still in the Racing Post Trophy up until a late stage, and must be well thought of, not to mention some of the well bred newcomers in the race.

Wheat Sheaf runs for the first time in the 1m Maiden. He is a half brother to Barley Mow and Glean, but came into the yard later than some of the other two year olds. He is a scopey horse who will be better next year, and will hopefully run with promise. There are a load of very well bred horses in the race including Farrh’s full brother, called Racing’s History.

Temptress

Temptress returns to the track after a 102 day lay off. She had a minor setback after winning at Ascot on fast ground. She has won on good to soft ground and is bred to cope with it, as Shirocco’s should go on it, and Femme Fatale won the Firth of Clyde on good to soft. Her form from Ascot is very solid, as she beat Felwah with ease by 5 lengths, who has since won twice and been close up in a listed race. She is over her racing weight as you would expect, and I hope she is fit enough to run her race, as this is the last possible race for her this year. She will return next year.

Mountain Rescue runs in the 7f Nursery at Kempton, having won there on his debut over 6f. He has been given an opening mark of 77 and it will be interesting to see how he gets on against much more experienced rivals. He is a horse for next year as he is a scopey type, so I hope he can run well.
