25th October 2014

One runner today at Newbury, with Melodica and one this evening at Wolverhampton with Star Fire.

Melodica is a big filly who came in late and has taken her time. 1m on this ground is pretty tough for backward fillies at this time of the year, but she will learn a lot from the experience, and I hope she can show some promise.

Star Fire is a filly who was sadly brought down in her first race at Windsor, which took some time to get over. She ran well on her return to the track when 4th at Kempton. She travelled well at Nottingham, before struggling in the soft ground. She will be better suited to the surface at Wolverhampton and I hope she can show her true form.

Scooner ran with great promise at Newbury yesterday, travelling very sweetly before getting interfered with and staying on for 3rd. Copperopolis was sent of favourite somehow, despite the warning on here that he would need further than his brothers. He will progress with racing. Pageant Belle tried her hardest in ground that she wasn’t in love with and stuck on well for fifth. Libbard ran with great promise, staying on well from a long way back to finish amongst some talented fillies, most of whom had had a race. She is, as I thought, a filly who will need 1m 4f next year and should have a future.
