26th November 2014

We have three runners between Kempton and Lingfield.

Melodica makes her second start over a 1m in a race open to both sexes. She ran on some atrocious ground at Newbury on her debut, but showed good speed, before tiring in the final furlong. She has done well since and I hope she can show an improved effort today. The others in the race have shown a fair level of form, without setting the world alight.

Sample

Sample makes her debut on a racecourse tonight at Kempton. She is bred to need a little further than 6f, but she is inclined to be rather free and impatient in her work, so she will start over 6f.  It’s a poor race on paper and it looks likely that a 72 rated horse may be good enough on the day, with Ershaad being the one to take out of it for the future.

Major Jack

Major Jack runs in a very interesting race at Kempton. It’s a competitive race for the winter which will please the racecourse. He ran a blinder last time out after a lay off, having an awkward break from a poor draw, leading him to sit last whilst the eventual winner set the fractions. He got a split up the rail, and flew in the last furlong and a half and lost out by a neck. That was only 7 days ago, and there is always the possibility that he could bounce from that effort, but there is not a suitable race for a while and he is set to be raised 4lbs in the future. He appears to be in good form and I hope he runs his race. Again he has a poor draw in 9, but I hope he doesn’t have to sit as far back as he did at Lingfield. There is a bit of pace in the race in the shape of Pipers Note and Lady Frances, but the biggest danger will come from Steelriver who was mighty impressive last time at Kempton, although he will be racing from his highest rating.
