Captain Cat begins his season in the Winter Derby.

He returns to Lingfield for the 3rd time. His record at the track is a win and a second, when he was just touched off by the talented Robin Hoods Bay over 1m 2f. The majority of his racing has been over a mile, but his second on his last attempt at it, proves he has it in his locker. If he wins, he can run on Good Friday, and if he doesn't he can't as there weren't enough suitable races for him to run in over the winter as a multiple Group 3 winner, to enable him to qualify for the Mile race, which he won last year. It would be disappointing to not be able to defend his crown and is something they should consider for next year.

The race today is very different to his big win at the track. There is a serious lack of pace, what with Battalion now trying new tactics of dropping in and Lamar being a non runner. Grendisar, Tryster and Complict are all likely to be held up, while there are plenty others in the race who like to take their time.

Captain Cat is bouncing and very well. He had a long second half of the year, which had much success,  and we have tried to freshen him up. He will come on for the race as he has plenty of exciting targets later on and we hope something decides to go on at a good pace, enabling him to settle and finish with his customary kick.

Sample runs at Wolverhampton in a maiden. She has been very unlucky not to win one, and its not often that a 66 rated horse can win a maiden. The form of those that have run is nothing special, but there are two well bred newcomers trained by big stables who could be anything. Adam Kirby is in the plate, and he has been in magnificent form over the winter and will be an asset to her.
