Two runners heading to Kempton, where the ground is not like a road….
Bold
Bold ran two races of promise last year. He started off over a mile at Ffos Las on soft ground and ran in to Restorer who went on to be second in the Autumn Stakes. The two that finished behind him that day have won since. His second run was at Nottingham on soft ground, over 8.5f. He travelled up well and looked the winner, before fading in the final furlong to be third. I think that he may not have stayed on that final occasion, on that ground, so we will try him over 7f today. He holds his condition well, and looks very well in his coat.
Captain Marmalade
Captain Marmalade was frustrating last year. Having run a race full of promise at Newbury on debut, he didn’t run to his best at Catterick. He ran some better races afterwards at Newmarket and Kempton, before running below par when the race/ride did not suit him on his final start. This is a nice starting point, and on pedigree he will stay further, but does show a lot of speed.
