TUESDAY 29/11/2011

We seem to have very little involvement in the December Sales except that Clowance is due to be sold today in foal to Oasis Dream. She has been added to the Sale since the catalogue was printed and I will be disappointed to see her go should she be sold.  Tomorrow we are selling Sister Red (Ire) Lot 2040  for Michael Pescod,  who is half sister to his Red Badge who won the Select Stakes Gr 3 at Goodwood. She came here from Richard Hannon's yard during the summer but she did not run for us.

Bated Breath and Cityscape continue their preparation for travelling to Hong Kong on Friday afternoon with Steve Raymont. Yesterday they passed their inspection from the BHA vet and tomorrow they are due to have nasal swabs for flu etc.

FRIDAY 25/11/2011

Definightly ran a fair race to be beaten a little over a length for third place but his jockey reported that being drawn 4 was against him. The winner, Eton Rifles drawn 14 was impressive having raced down the stand rails and Fred Lalloupet in stall 9 was second having previously finished upsides Definightly in their race at Maisons-Laffitte recently.  Holiday time for Definightly and we will look forward to his return in 2012.

THURSDAY 24/11/2011

Slightly to my surprise I thought  Mac Love ran a really encouraging race at the ripe old age of 10, he stayed on well in the closing stages to run up to a mark in the high 90's. His 76th race and  beaten less than two lengths by the winner, what a ''star''.  He may run again in a condition race at Wolverhampton on 2nd December as long as he remains in good and happy form.

Definightly has just arrived at Fontainebleau and Alan Knight my traveling head lad reported that he was very fresh this morning and eating well. There are 18 runners and he's drawn 4 (not thought to be a good draw by Thierry Thulliez) and the ground is soft which should be to his liking. His main opponents are:-  Clairvoyance who won the race last year,  Eton Rifles won a Listed race at the Curragh in October,  Mariol won a Listed race on the course in October,  Fred Lalloupet beat Definightly a short-head for second last time out at Maisons Laffitte and Le Valentin was a neck behind Definightly in the Prix Du Meautry Group 3 at Deauville in August when they finished 2nd and 3rd to Marchand D'Or. Definightly has now won 6 of his 22 races for total earnings of £125,000.

WEDNESDAY 23/11/2011

Max Love runs again this evening at Kempton in the Hyde Stakes a Listed race over 8f. He was rather disappointing in his last race at Newmarket but a turning track probably suits him better, this may well be his last race if he doesn't perform with his normal vigor.

Definightly left Beckhampton at 8pm yesterday and arrived at Lamorlaye stables near Paris in the early hours of this morning. He will have a restful day enjoying some 'good food' before traveling on to Fontainebleau for tomorrow's race.  He is delared to run in The PrIx Contessina a 6f Listed race with 17 others and with his regular French pilot Thierry Thulliez.  He last ran as a two-year-old at Fontainebleau exactly three years ago in The Prix Zeddan to finish nearly last !

SUNDAY 20/112011

Poor little Dorrit was rather over whelmed by the lights and kick back last night but she behaved well and there's plenty of room for improvement I hope..

SATURDAY 19/11/2011

We are back in action this evening with a runner at Wolverhampton at 8.20. Dorrit (Dalakhani) runs for the first time over an extended mile with Steve Drowne. She is owned and bred by Genki's owner Gill Khosla and has a pedigree full of stamina so she will be suited by a mile and a half next year. Her dam Pretty As Can Be (Giant's Causeway) was unraced but she is a half sister to the Group 1 stayers that include Classic Cliche RPR 126 who won the Ascot Gold Cup in 1996, My Emma won the Yorkshire Oaks in the same year and Mediterranean won the Ebor in 2001.   It will also interesting to see how Lycidas runs in the race having finished second to Trader Jack at Ffos Las recently. Dorrit is a small filly but tough and has been in training since the summer. Her name comes from the Charles Dickens novel Little Dorrit or Amy Dorrit which was first published in 1855.

Definightly worked with Bated Breath this morning on the trial grounds and he is due to return to France again on Tuesday in preparation for the Prix Contessina (6f Listed) at Fontainebleau on Thursday 24th November.  Cityscape worked on his own and remains on track to go with his baby half brother Bated Breath to Hong Kong on 2nd December.

We have still got a few shares available in some pretty nice yearlings....see...  '' Horses For Sale''

SATURDAY 12/11/2011

We have now entered our quiet time with very few runners before Christmas. Alot of the horses have been sent away to various Studs so that they can be turned out for a break of a month or two whilst the weather remains so mild.  All the boxes are being steamed cleaned and disinfected and left empty for a week or two.  There is a chance that Mac Love might run one more time before his winter break, in a Listed race at Kempton on the 23rd November and both Cityscape and Bated Breath have been formally invited by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to run at their meeting on the 11th December. Bated Breath will go for the 6 furlong sprint £620,000 to the winner and Cityscape in the Hong Kong Mile £886,000 to the winner.   They continue to be in good form and worked well this morning so exciting times ahead.  Fontainebleau is on the agenda for Definightly on November 24th where there is a 6 furlong Listed race which I hope will suit him.

SATURDAY 5/11/2011

A very pleasing result at Ffos Las with Trader Jack winning his race with ease in very testing ground giving us a 50% strike rate with our two year olds at the course. I hope he will be a horse with a future and it will be interesting to see how far he stays as a three year old, his dam is by the sprinter Averti and his sire Trade Fair stayed 8 furlongs. On his dam's side of his pedigree there are plenty of good stayers in it that include Al Kazeem, Zanzibar, Spice Route, Glint Of Gold, Diamond Shoal and Armiger and Steve Drowne thought that he would be suited by at least 10 furlongs.

FRIDAY 4/11/2011

Deceptive was disappointing last night at Wolverhampton having travelled well, she stopped very quickly and in the end she was well beaten.

Trader Jack is our last turf runner of 2011 and runs in the first race at Ffos Las today.  He is a big colt measuring over 16hhs and weighing 510 kilos which would make him one of our biggest two year olds.  He ran a very encouraging race at Newbury recently having missed the break, he ran on well to be beaten  3 1/2 lengths by a Mark Johnston colt Assizes, (who has an entry at Leopardstown on Sunday in a Listed race).  The ground at Newbury was good to firm and I was concerned on the day that it might have been a little too fast for him, but whether heavy ground this afternoon is what any two year old needs, we will no doubt find out.   The betting would suggest that his main opponent will be the Mark Johnston trained Tiger Hill filly Tigresa, but I hope we can go out on a winner.

THURSDAY 3/11/2011

Yesterdays runner Tantamount did not enjoy the very soft ground and I hope will return to the racecourse in April.

Deceptive runs this evening at Wolverhampton at 8.00pm which will be her last race before going to the December Sales at Newmarket. She looks well but the handicapper may well have over reacted when she won a very weak race at Kempton on the 5th October by 7 lengths. He raised her mark by 13 to 74, she then ran in a better race with a penalty off  a mark of 67 the following week at Kempton where she was beaten by 3 lengths. Tonight she runs off a mark of 73 and she will need to have improved again to win but she continues to look well and appears to be in a happy frame of mind.
