Thursday 18th October

Abated was a little keen in the early stages and then settled well before staying on in good style to finish second, beaten half a length. She will not run again until next year, she should strengthen up and I hope stay further.

Dedication returns to Kempton to run in the first division of the mile handicap and she seems to be in good form.

Not for the first time has Pythagorean been a little disappointing, he will be put away for the season. Forward March still has a lot to learn as he pulled far too hard for the first half of the race and will need to learn to settle.

Abated is our only runner today she goes to Kempton for the six furlong fillies’ maiden race at 8.10 pm. She is a full sister to Bated Breath (recently retired to stud) and I am hoping that she can run well and continue the good record of her dam.

Secondo (FR) slightly missed the break again but stayed on to finish third behind the easy winner Pivotal Moment, which was the first of Richard Hughes magnificent seven winners. He would prefer faster ground like his sire Sakhee’s Secret did.

Pythagorean runs in the seven furlong two year old maiden race at Leicester at 3.10 pm. He raced a bit free when he finished second at Goodwood but he should be suited by the soft ground. Today’s race looks competitive but I am hoping he will have a chance of getting off the mark.

Pythagorean

At Wolverhampton Forward March has his second start in the median auction maiden race at 6.20 pm. He is quite a difficult character and ran with the choke out at Salisbury recently.  He needs to learn to settle and then hopefully we will get some better results.

Monday 15th October

Our runners on Friday and again yesterday all ran really well, as I suspected Lovage was not in love with the ground at Bath but she stayed on in a determined fashion to finish third. Hint Of Promise still showed a bit of inexperience but it was an improved effort to finish second and hopefully she will be able to find a race before heading to the December Sale for Juddmonte Farms. At Goodwood Don Marco was a little free in the early stages but he seemed to win with plenty in hand and behaved himself well, the hood definitely keeps him calm.

Today we run Secondo (FR) in the first race at Windsor and as long as he copes with the ground described as soft and heavy in places he should run well.

Friday 12th October

I was pleased with the way both Tartary (IRE) and Top Trail (USA)  behaved and ran in their first visit to the races. They both showed promise and stayed on in the closing stages in an above average race.

Lovage goes to Bath to run with top weight in the 12.30 pm.  She has a rating of 65 and I have been searching for an opportunity to run her over a mile for several weeks but there have been few opportunities. Ideally she would prefer much faster ground and the going at Bath which has had a good thrashing recently will be far from ideal, but the season is running out on us
Hint Of Promise runs in the maiden race at Wolverhampton in the 8.15 pm. Her form has been gradually improving and I hope there will be more to come, but she will need to improve again against some more experienced rivals.

Thursday 11th October

Cactus Valley (IRE) ran a much more encouraging race to finish second but unfortunately the winner seemed to have rather alot in hand.

We now only have two runners at Kempton this evening as Sibaya has been declared a non runner in the first division of the six furlong maiden two year old race. In the second division we run Tartary (IRE); a good looking colt by Oasis Dream out of Tamso, who is from a very good family but so far her offspring have proved to be disappointing. We also run Top Trail (USA) a Juddmonte filly who is by Exchange Rate the sire of Clive Cox’s Reckless Abandon, she is from the family of Bated Breath and Cityscape.  Most of my two year olds improve from their first visit to the races.

Cactus Valley (IRE) runs in the last race at Nottingham today having had a long break since his last race.  He seems to be in good form and he should handle the soft ground.

Tuesday 9th October

There does not appear to be an excuse or reason why Stir Trader (IRE) ran disappointingly yesterday but he did receive a hefty bump in the early stages.

Sakhee’s Rose coped well with the conditions to finish fourth and I hope she will get a chance in a Nursery Handicap.

Monday 8th October

Naturally I was thrilled with the wonderful and sweet Mince with her game victory at Ascot on Saturday in ground that required all her guts and determination.  She is a very special filly who has now won seven races in her short career and I hope will give her owner lots more fun in the future. Genki (IRE) ran his last race and will enjoy being turned out in a paddock next week. At Newmarket Rosslyn Castle was again rather disappointing and I would imagine that he will be heading for the Horses in Training Sale.  Although the conditions should have suited Definightly at Longchamp yesterday he dropped back after two furlongs and he was not able to dominate as he likes to from the front. He will now have a much deserved winter break and I hope he will return for another season in 2013.

Stir Trader (IRE) runs in the 2.00 pm at Wolverhampton. I would have preferred a lower draw but at least he is a winner over the course and steps up a furlong which I hope will suit him. He will probably need to improve again from his last race in this more competitive race.

Sakhee’s Rose runs in the 3.00 pm where there would appear to be several of fillies with good all weather form. The form of her last race at Leicester is working out well but she drops down in distance and it will be interesting to see if she handles the surface and kick back.

Saturday 6th October

I thought Captain Cat (IRE) ran a good race after his long lay off, travelling well throughout the race and then unfortunately tiring in the closing stages on fairly testing ground. His pedigree would suggest that he should stay further next year and I hope he will make a really nice handicapper. Silver Lime (USA) was declared a non runner due to the ground.

Mince has a big test today at Ascot when she steps up in grade to run in the Bengough Stakes Group 3. She has had a wonderful year but you could argue that her best form comes on fast ground having broken two course records. She did run on soft ground earlier in the year and on heavy ground at Haydock last year where she finished second to Ballesteros. As she stays in training as a four year old today at least will tell us if she can operate under today’s likely testing conditions after more overnight rain.

Mince

Genki (IRE) has been a wonderful and special horse to train, such a great character and with such a good record on the racecourse, but today could be his last race before he goes into an honourable retirement. Ideally he would prefer faster ground but he has won in soft conditions before.

Genki (IRE)

Rosslyn Castle goes to Newmarket to run in the 3.20 pm, he drops back in distance and has been fitted with blinkers for the first time, he should enjoy the soft ground.
