Love Match

Love Match has had a nice break since her last race at Salisbury when she ran behind a good filly "Field Day" of Brian Meehan's who was unlucky not to win a Group race in Deauville at the weekend.  William Buick rode her that day and said she definitely did not stay a mile so todays trip should suit her better.

Walcot Square

Walcot Square returned from Kempton with a rather sore shin which was a bit surprising at his age. He perhaps travelled a bit too well and did not seem to quite get home, maybe 7 furlongs on a faster surface in a true run race will suit him in the future, but who knows. I am sure he is capable of winning a race when the conditions are right.

Walcot Square

Walcot Square had some good form as a two year old and I thought his comeback race at Kempton was most encouraging when he was beaten by Hypnotized who has subsequently done well. In his last race at Newmarket he got a little tired and the ground was too slow for him, so granted luck in running I am expecting him to run well today.

Striking Love

Striking Love will be looking for a new home as I am afraid that if she cannot run well off a rating of 50 she is going to be a struggle to win with.   She is now available for retraining and she might make a useful polo pony in due course.

Sunday Runners.

Striking Love runs this afternoon at Bath in a 6 furlong nursery with a rating of 50.  She has been a bit unlucky in her races and if she cannot run well today off this rating she is going to struggle in the future although this trip at Bath might be just a bit too sharp for her.

Yabtree found the ground far too soft having thought that it was going to suit him.  He also ran a bit "free" and might well be suited by dropping back in trip

Bated Breath got a hefty bump from his outside after leaving the stalls from Iver Bridge Road Lad which set him alight and if Jimmy Fortune hadn't taken him back he could have clipped heels.  From then on he was travelling easily and waiting for a gap which unfortunately never came.  This meant that he had to switch round to get a run but the first two had already gone.  In my opinion he was unlucky and should have won.  We did learn that the ground, although riding heavy and quite loose is not an excuse.  I will be looking for a listed race in the future for him and he remains a good sprinting prospect for the future.

Yabtree has been running fairly consistently but the handicapper does not seem to give him much chance, but I am hoping that the rain softened ground might suit him better than some of the others. although 7 furlongs under these conditions might have been even better.

Bated Breath goes into the unknown of running for the first time on what would appear to be very soft ground. A change in going can upset the form book so it is difficult to be confident about his prospects today but he has been pleasing me in his work and has so far had a progressive profile.  At some stage, horses need to be tested under all conditions so that we know what to do in the future, there is no point in travelling to Ireland or France for a race not knowing whether a horse is going to handle the conditions.

Fridays runners

Waterborne ran below expectation but to be fair to him he was incredibly green and never really got the message. I am sure he will improve and make a nice staying handicapper in time. He took his race well and I would plan to run him again fairly shortly as he should have learnt plenty yesterday.

Marlinka ran a brave race from the front but unfortunately the rain softened ground was not in her favour, if only it had been a 4 furlong race she would have won well as she had most of them off the bridle from the start. Small and speedy but life might be difficult in the future as there are limited opportunities and fast ground is important.

Silbury showed plenty of speed but got tired in the closing stages and Steve Drowne thought she would be better suited to 6 furlongs on the turf as the 7 furlongs was a bit too far for her. He also reported that the polytrack at Kempton at the moment has alot of kickback and as she jumped well there was not point in restraining her as most two year olds first time out don't particularly enjoy getting polytrack in their face.

Spoken made the journey to Goodwood but we decided after the first two races that the ground was on the slow side down the straight which was not going to be in his favour. I hope that we can find a similar race fairly soon because he is in good form and ready to go.

I was pleased with Goldtrek yesterday at Salisbury but she ran a bit "fresh" after her 5 week break and probably just needed the race, getting tired in the closing stages. She should improve and if given a chance by the handicapper, could win another race and she is likely to remain in training next year.
