Was rather disappointing today but after the overnight rain, watered ground and 5 days of racing, the ground was very loose coming down the hill and Steve Drowne realized at an early stage that he wasn't handling it. It has happened once before on over-watered ground in the Wokingham last year. Hopefully he will bounce back in the near future. Hats off to Dandy - he is still the Sprint king!
Proponent ran his usual game race at Goodwood yesterday. He was drawn badly and did not have the best of runs having to be switched left just over two furlongs out, but he stayed on strongly to finish 4th.
Proponet is in great form but runs in a hugely competitive race for a big prize at Goodwood today. Historically, it would appear that he needs to be drawn higher to give him a chance. He runs well very consistently, but his price is probably a true reflection of his chance.
Run For The Hills was previously trained by John Gosden and was bought out of the Newmarket July Sales. He has settled into his new surroundings extremely well. He seems happy, relaxed and eating well but I know very little about him or indeed how much work he needs. He has bits of form that give him an outside chance, but tomorrow is very much a learning curve and he will be ably assisted by Hayley Turner.

Here we are getting ready for another Stewards Cup with Genki which is going to be his toughest assignment yet as he now races of a 10lb higher mark than last year. I think I am right in thinking that no horse has won it on two consecutive times for at least 40 years. There are a number of horses in the race that have the form to win the race, but we must remember that it is a handicap and that in theory they have an equal chance. He is in terrific form, very happy and fresh but in an ideal world I would like some rain and maybe even some "fog" like last year.
Spoken followed up his victory at Bath yesterday at Nottingham in good style. He was allowed an uncontested lead and quickened away in the closing stages, it would appear that the gelding operation and the slight change in tactics has produced a dramatic improvement. We always thought that he had the potential to be rated higher, but he was a little disappointing in his first few races.
Sea of Heartbreak was very disappointing yesterday at Goodwood and was virtually pulled up. She seemed fine after the race and my vet will be looking at her this morning to see if there is a problem. Sometimes horses do not act at Goodwood and she may have slipped coming down the hill but she did seem to handle Salisbury twice which is not dis-similar to Goodwood.
Sugar Beet ran last night at Leicester, she was in the stalls for what seemed like 10 minutes whilst several other fillies misbehaved. She was subsequently slowly away and then seemed to run into plenty of trouble during the race. She certainly would have learnt plenty and can hopefully run again fairly soon.
Spoken made the running at Bath last time which seemed to suit him. He is stepping back up in trip today which I hope will suit him. He should have an each way chance.
We have got no runners today but Sugar Beet is declared to run at Leicester tomorrow in the 6.10 pm race. I hope that she has got a much better chance as last time they started the race without starting stalls ! The stalls had been held up by a traffic accident. Sea of Heartbreak is everybodys favourite and runs tomorrow at Goodwood at 4.00pm. Having won her last 4 races, she is going to try and break the Beckhampton record by getting five in a row. This will obviously be a very tough assignment.
