Fruitful November continues

 In Beckhampton News

On Friday evening Universal Command spread eagled his opposition at Wolverhampton under a positive ride from Kieran. He was a bit unlucky the time before when he got caught a bit far back. His owners have been very patient and it was great that they got their reward. There wasn’t a suitable race for him to run back so we will take our time and find a suitable race, possibly with someone claiming some weight off his back.

Also that evening Great Bear made a taking debut for Lady Rothschild. A horse with great significance for Waddesdon Stud being out of their oaks winner Great Heavens, it was naturally important that he made a winning start at 2. He is a raw horse who will grow up a lot over the winter and it will be exciting to get him back on track next year.

Yesterday at Lingfield we had a satisfying double in both divisions of the opening staying handicap. Although not the most high profile races, Lumen and True Destiny both did it well and looked like they could find another opportunity in the near  future.

Tonight Headman makes his second start at Kempton. Stepping back in trip is not ideal, especially from his wide draw, but there were no other suitable maidens for him coming up. He carries his penalty for winning and tonight he takes on a well bred newcomer who has been working well at Moulton Paddocks. Headman remains a horse of great potential and he will learn a lot more this evening, and give him something to think about over the winter.

Tavus is bred to stay further next year and it will be good to get him on the track . We expect him to learn a lot on debut.
