Savaanah, Aspetar and Fashion’s Star
Savaanah picked up some valuable black type in France on Wednesday when just losing out in the Prix Coronation by a head. She has come a long way this year after starting on a mark of 78 and winning 3 and placing in 2. She is a good looking filly, with plenty of size and hopefully can only get better next year.
Aspetar travelled to Scotland to run in the Doonside Cup at Ayr on Thursday. It was a tough spot for him with his listed penalty and off a long lay off. He was not aided by his wide draw and the very soft ground put a lot of emphasis on his fitness which was a bit lacking. Despite all that he ran a blinder having sat last and run past most of the field to get 3rd. He needs 12f but there were no suitable races and so this was a pleasing effort. We will look for another race before the end of the season.
Today we run Fashion’s Star at Newbury in the fillies conditions race. Obviously its not an easy place to make your debut against a couple of fillies that have essentially won maidens already and very decent ones at that. We were keen to run her on a decent track and Newbury is very much that, and it will be nice to get her out. It will be tough for her to win on debut especially if it gets too soft.
